June 28, 2012 - Joel Jens Takes the Win in the Yamaha Shootout!

Joel Jens piloted his Verde Speed Resources Tony Kart powered by a Switch Racing Yamaha to a dominating win in the Bestway Drywall Yamaha Shootout during the past weekend’s activities at Michiana Raceway Park. Bringing home a payday of $1,000.00 for the win and a set of new Bridgestone tires. The popular Route 66 racing series hosted the event after their regular racing format on Saturday June 23. In a highly stacked field of talent, Jens proceeded to place his kart on the pole in the first couple minutes of qualifications. Sitting on the grid ready to mount a second attempt if his time would have been bested, Jens had little to worry about as no one would come close as the twenty minute session went on. With moments to go at the end of the session, Jen’s crew made the move to send him out again to test a race setup for the final. This move would be just what he needed.

Starting from the pole and bringing the field to the start, the outside rows made a very noticeable jump at the start, with the flagman waving the green as the field was out of line. This would find Jens falling back to third at the turn. Working his contenders over one by one as the opening laps pressed on, the Wisconsin based Tony Kart driver would capture the lead within the first 5 laps of the race and lead to the finish from that point. Claiming an unchallenged victory as the two positions behind him battled and swapped with two laps remaining. Jens’ commented at the conclusion of the event “ I am happy with how the promoters ran the event and format and hope to compete in future Shootout classes to be held” Jens also thanked his sponsors, L&T clutches, Verde Speed Resources, Indocil Art helmet painting, Switch Racing Engines, Bridgestone and Tony Kart. When ask what he was going to do next, he commented “I am going to Disney World!” Fitting as Jens is taking a weekend off after extensive testing in preparation for the coming weeks racing schedule.

Jens will compete next at the same track for the fourth round of the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series, looking to capture finishes to keep him leading classes towards another prestigious Triple Crown Award. For more information and sponsorship opportunities follow www.joeljens.com
