May 10, 2012 - Joel Jens Grabs Three Podium Finishes at Pittsburgh International Race Complex
TonyKart / Verde Speed Resources driver Joel Jens added three more awards to his trophy case following, Round 3 of the WKA Mazda / Bridgestone
Manufacturers Cup Series at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The Switch Racing Engines sponsored driver earned three podium finishes and missed
the forth podium by one position as he competed in multiple classes through the race weekend. A great weekend of results would see the past years
Triple Crown Award winning driver again in the lead of 3 out of the 4 junior classes. The remaining class would have Jens categorized in 2nd place in
National Points closely following the leader by a few points.
It was a busy weekend for the Manitowoc Wisconsin native as practice on Friday
with Saturday racing, Joel competed in the Komet Junior Heavy and Yamaha Junior. Lite classes Sunday would see him racing in the Komet Junior Lite and
Yamaha Junior Heavy classes.
First class to compete in for the weekend was Komet Jr. Heavy, Jens qualified his TonyKart EVRR tenth out of 35
karts for the start of the Pre-Final . Charging hard through the race Jens made up a couple of positions to start the Final in 8th. As the Final
concluded, the driver would end up 6th in the final standings and generating enough points for Jens to move up to the lead of the points chase for the
National Championship.
Next up on the days schedule was the Yamaha Jr. Lite class, with a field of 43 entries as he qualified his TonyKart 8th
for the run in the Pre-Final. working hard on set up for the race the Joel Jens Racing Team gave the driver the equipment to move up to 4th in the
Pre-Final standings and put him in contention for a win The ever powerful; Switch Racing Engines powered kart made it up to 3rd by the checkered flag
and gave another points lead to the outstanding driver looking to repeat his accomplishments from last year.
Sunday would be another double
entry day for Jens, racing in the Komet Jr. Lite and Yamaha Junior Heavy classes. Better qualification results were the order of the day this day, as
Jens would end up outside row 2 in forth for both classes. 35 karts took the green flag for Komet Jr. Lite and 42 took the green for Yamah Jr Heavy.
Jens Ended the day in 2nd in the Komet class and 4th in the Yamaha class. Jens left the day leading the 3rd class of the National Points chase in
Yamaha and 2nd in the Komet . Very impressive accomplishments and exactly what the team had strategized going into the event.
“I’m very pleased to be leaving Pittsburgh Interantional Race Complex with the lead in 3 classes,” said Jens. “I am
looking forward to the next round in South Bend Indiana July 6-8, as that is one of my favorite tracks and I am anxious to compete on the new
configuration.” With only a few days off, Jens heads back into completion this weekend at the Midwest Sprint Series event in Norway Illinois.
Using this event as a test for new product it is a good preparation for a very important round in the WKA Manufacturers Cup later in the year.
Jens’ accomplishments in 2011 saw him dominate all Junior classes in the Midwest Sprint Series.
